Mercedes-Benz Vans is the Mercedes-Benz AG division for vans of the Mercedes-Benz brand. Besides the day to day van sales and configurations they also have a B2B portal, where business owners can rent, buy and finance vans.
The client indicated to me that they wished to restructure their form inputs in regards to private and business customers. The challenge was to create a user-friendly form that was capable of showing different fields depending on the type of customer. Naturally the design would have to equally work for mobile as well as all other relevant screen sizes. There also needed to be a small banner ad within the layout of the new form.
For this project I opted to do a competitor analysis to find ways to deliver a form that can cater to 2 different parties at the same time. After several internal focus groups with the stakeholders and discussing varies results I decided to present 3 variations to the client.
Some of the problems I first encountered when looking at the current forms on the client's website was a lack of feedback when clicking the input fields. Also the form validation was done in a way that wasn't always visible to the user depending on the screen size. It was important to make sure form validation as well as required fields were done in way that users would find easy to use.
Based on my research and focus groups and I knew that I needed to design a form with tabs but also do variations of it. At the same time it was necessary to make sure the form was accessible at all times. At first I created a functioning mobile version of the form to make sure I could handle 2 parties on mobile in an efficient manner. I then created multiple versions of the form on desktop. Now I was in a position to do some user testing, which has led me to my initial designs.
All in all this project went as planned with a decent turn over. The client liked the initial designs und my tests also proved to be beneficial. I was able to to produce a prototype that satisfied both users and client intent, which was more than I could ask for.
